We deliver services onsite and virtually, in English and Spanish, in full alignment with TEA and IDEA requirements.
If you lead a charter school and need any part of special education handled well, this page tells you what we cover. The questions at the bottom answer how fast we can start, how you contract with us, and what to expect.
What special education evaluations does BHG provide?
Brighter Horizons Group conducts Full Individual Evaluations (FIE) and reevaluations across all thirteen IDEA disability categories for Texas charter schools, in English and Spanish, performed by licensed educational diagnosticians and Licensed School Psychologists. Evaluations are completed in TEA-compliant, ARD-ready format and meet IDEA timeline requirements.
A thorough evaluation is the gateway to every support a student with a disability is entitled to. When it’s done with care, families walk away feeling their child was finally, truly seen.
Includes: FIE, Review of Existing Evaluation Data (REED), autism (ASD), specific learning disability (SLD), other health impairment (OHI), emotional disability (ED), intellectual disability (ID), bilingual assessment, and Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE).
Does BHG provide speech therapy and SLP services in schools?
Brighter Horizons Group provides speech-language evaluations and therapy delivered by ASHA-certified, Texas-licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and supervised SLPAs, in English and Spanish, onsite or virtually for smaller and rural campuses.
Speech-language services are the most commonly required IEP-related service in Texas schools. When a child can finally say what they need and be understood, academic confidence and social connection open up with it. A gap in speech coverage increases compliance risk and developmental delay.
Includes: speech-language evaluations, individual and group therapy, articulation, language intervention, fluency, pragmatic and social communication, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) support.
Does BHG provide dyslexia evaluation and intervention?
Brighter Horizons Group provides dyslexia evaluations and structured-literacy intervention for Texas charter schools, conducted by Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs) using the Multisensory Teaching Approach grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles, with documentation that meets Texas Dyslexia Handbook standards for IEP and Section 504 planning.
Dyslexia is a difference, not a ceiling. With the right intervention, students who once struggled to read discover they are capable learners, and parents often describe that as the moment everything changed.
Includes: dyslexia evaluation (CALT) and structured-literacy therapy (MTA), with all TEA-required documentation.
Does BHG provide counseling and mental health services for students with IEPs?
Brighter Horizons Group provides counseling as an IEP-related service, along with behavioral assessment, delivered by licensed mental health professionals for Texas charter schools, in English and Spanish. Services support both special education and general education students.
Students with IEPs are disproportionately affected by anxiety, trauma, and isolation, and even the best-written goals stay out of reach until a student feels safe. Knowing their child has a trusted adult at school is one of the most meaningful assurances you can offer a family.
Includes: Individual and group counseling, social skills training, Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
Does BHG provide occupational therapy in schools?
Brighter Horizons Group provides school-based occupational therapy for Texas charter schools, delivered by Texas-licensed Occupational Therapists (OTRs), with every session tied directly to a student’s IEP goals and classroom participation. OT is required by many IEPs but is rarely staffed in-house at charter schools.
A child who can hold a pencil, manage their sensory environment, and move through the day with confidence is a child who can focus on learning.
Includes: OT evaluations, fine motor and handwriting support, sensory processing, self-care skills, assistive technology evaluation, and classroom participation support.
Can BHG help with SPED compliance and ARD facilitation?
Brighter Horizons Group facilitates ARD meetings, develops and audits IEPs, conducts SPED program audits modeled on TEA’s cyclical monitoring framework, and supports corrective action for charter schools, including those flagged under TEA’s Results Driven Accountability (RDA) system, which requires noncompliance to be corrected within one calendar year.
This is the work that keeps superintendents up at night, and it’s the work we were built for. We find the gaps before TEA does, so your leaders can focus on instruction instead of paperwork.
Includes: ARD facilitation, IEP development and review, SPED program audits, ongoing compliance support, embedded SPED Coordinator services, monthly progress reporting, transition planning, Child Find support, and Section 504 consultation.
Does BHG train and develop school SPED staff?
Brighter Horizons Group provides professional development and mentoring for Texas charter school staff, training general educators, paraprofessionals, and administrators, and mentoring developing special education staff in evaluation, IEP development, and ARD facilitation. Training is delivered onsite or virtual is available.
The strongest SPED programs aren’t the ones that outsource forever. They’re the ones whose own people grow more confident every year.
Includes: campus and staff training (trauma-informed practices, suicide risk awareness, executive functioning, behavior management, IDEA compliance) and structured mentoring for new and developing SPED staff.
Can BHG help recruit SPED staff and directors?
Brighter Horizons Group helps Texas charter schools recruit and place special education staff, including fractional or consulting SPED Directors, SPED Coordinators, certified special education teachers, and supports teachers working toward TEA certification (including the EC-12 Special Education certificate).
When a campus needs SPED leadership or staffing, the wrong hire is costly in every way that matters. We help you find people who can manage complex caseloads, build trust with students, and meet TEA documentation standards.
Includes: fractional or consulting SPED Director, SPED Coordinator, special education teacher recruitment, and certification-pathway support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who provides special education services to charter schools in Texas?
Brighter Horizons Group provides special education services to charter schools across Texas. We are a Texas-based special education services practice offering evaluations, other related services, dyslexia intervention, ARD and compliance support, professional development, and SPED staffing, all delivered by licensed professionals in alignment with TEA and IDEA requirements.
What special education services does BHG provide?
BHG provides eight areas of service: special education evaluations across all thirteen IDEA disability categories, speech-language pathology, dyslexia evaluation and intervention, mental health and counseling, occupational therapy, ARD and compliance support, professional development, and SPED staff recruitment. Services are available in English and Spanish, onsite or virtually.
How quickly can BHG begin special education services?
It depends on the service. We have talented, credentialed professionals available now for many needs, and for specialized roles we may need a couple of weeks to match the right person to your campus. For urgent compliance situations, such as overdue evaluations or an RDA finding, we prioritize expedited placement. Tell us your timeline in a first conversation and we’ll be straight with you about what we can start and when.
Do you have providers ready to start now?
Yes, for many services we have qualified providers available to begin right away. For more specialized or hard-to-fill roles, we may need a short window, usually a couple of weeks, to find the right professional rather than just an available one. We would rather place the right person than the fastest one.
Do you have a regional agreement so we can avoid the RFP process?
You can contract with Brighter Horizons Group directly through a standard services agreement that meets TEA and IDEA requirements, which lets many charter schools begin without a full RFP. We are in the process of working with a couple regions to secure an ESC cooperative agreement.
What schools have you worked with?
We have worked with large multi-campus school districts, and other districts who have under three campuses and recently with brand new charter schools. Dulce and her team have worked with providing these services for years. They have a depth of knowledge and experience in working with Texas charter schools and understand compliance requirements.
Where does Brighter Horizons Group (BHG) provide services?
Brighter Horizons Group serves charter schools primarily in the Houston and DFW metroplexes. However, we are looking to expand. Services are delivered onsite at your campus, or virtually when available for speech-language and other related services at smaller and rural campuses.
Not sure which of these services you need?
Thirty minutes, no pitch, no pressure. Tell me where your program stands today, and I’ll tell you honestly what would make your school year easier.
